Ybor Explore

1

I’m not sure why I never did it before, but yesterday I decided to go see what Ybor has to offer a photographer. In my mind I thought I would find a bunch of rundown buildings and grime everywhere. I did find some, but I mostly just found a historic city full of character. Mind you I didn’t stray too far from the tourist areas. When I did it seemed I gained more attention than I was looking for: some people wanted to discuss things and others were far more helpful than they should be. One guy wanted $2.50 so I traded him $1 in exchange for his portrait. He went by the name “Beatbox”.

Hopefully I won’t go so long without a photo blog again. At any rate, enjoy!

Strobes

I recently started down the path to off-camera lighting. It takes a little reading and a decent amount of cash to get started, but once you do it’s fairly worthwhile. I bought my super-nifty flash and some accessories, but suddenly found myself without anything to shoot. Luckily a couple of friends came to my rescue. We headed to downtown Tampa and University of Tampa. Turns out you can wander around and go into rooms and nobody seems to mind.

Black Kat

I was recently digging through old shoots and stumbled on this one. I met this girl 1 time in a sort of friend of a friend of a friend scenario. This may have been one of the first shoots that really made me appreciate a solid black background. There’s something I find incredibly interesting about completely eliminating the surroundings even though you know it’s there. It doesn’t have the same feel as cutting out a person and painting the background black. Not sure I’m making a lot of sense, but all blathering aside I give you Black Kat.

Sunset Glow & Studio

Ever since I began taking photos, I’ve been more observant of what things might make a good shot. For the past few years, whenever I’m driving and the sun is fairly close to the horizon, I realized the colors were fantastic. I know sunsets can be a bit cliche, but they paint everything warm colors, and when that hits your eyes, it just looks amazing. Next time you’re outside during a sunset, point your face towards the sun and look in a mirror.

Here’s a few sunset shots, and just because, a few studio shots from the same day.
