Collaboration in the Wild
4My most recent shoot was quite an exciting endeavor. I had the opportunity to work with a fashion designer and a model from South Africa. The outfit had a wilderness feel, so we headed to Anclote nature preserve/pier. We got many curious looks from fishermen and hikers, but it was well worth it.
This may be one of my best shoots to date, and I think you’ll agree. (if so, leave a comment)
Trimester
1Recently I had the opportunity to work with a friend who’s just past her first trimester. I’m very happy for her and her husband and honored that I was able to do some pregnancy photography. This is a new style for me and I’m excited to see how this extended shoot will form over the coming months.
Sideshow
0Today I went to the Florida State Fair. I like going there for 2 main reasons: food and carnies. I had chicken on a stick, steak on a stick, fried twinkie, kettle corn… I’ll leave it at that. My conscience is keeping me from listing all atrocities.
I also love that carnival culture. From the fire-eating pygmy to the freakshow art to the little boy proud of his prize-winning poultry. It’s a unique experience that really can’t be found outside the fair environment.
Farms Are Creepy At Night
1I spent the last couple days in Illinois visiting family. I would be amiss if I traveled and didn’t manage to take some photos.
I didn’t go there with any specific target in mind, but I ended up shooting the farm at night. I have a lot of great childhood memories of that farm in Galva, Illinois. I still don’t understand why all lights in the Midwest are either sickly green or brown. I may never understand, and they’ll probably never be a different color.
I got a chance to do a type of photography I’ve been wanting to try: long exposure and a flashlight. Here’s a couple shots of airports and the farm.
Concerning Reality
0When it comes to presenting images, some people may consider it lying when a photo is edited. Those people do have a valid point. Rarely will you see one of my photos exactly how it looked when I shot it.
I’ll be the first to admit my work is heavily edited. Reality is exciting, but it’s also a lie.
As you have probably seen by now, I like to take photos at night. If you actually look at these locations at night, they all look yellow. At night everything is a brownish yellow because of lights. This isn’t reality, it’s been edited by colored lighting.
I edit because I like to bring out the ideal reality – what people want to see. What I wish I could see.
